I've had this annoying writer's block for about a year now. I was wondering if anyone has some tips to get over this funk....

Well, listening to music always helps me. Or try to write something in a different series you've never wrote before (you don't have to finish it). Or try writing a different type of fic than usually do. Sometimes exercising your writing muscle with different things helps a bit.
Um...improvization writing with a friend can help. Just decide ahead of time that it's just for fun and your not showing anyone else. Make sure your friend has decent writing skills....
That's all I can think of right now...

Well I sometimes have an idea, but while exploring it I find that it wouldn't make much sense without putting in about 300k of backstory...

Clefo, I'd say write these ideas down anyway, and maybe someday you can come back to them and fill in the backstory. It's a better idea to me than losing the ideas all together...

This is probably the best idea I have:
A couple from Ranma (Probably R and U) has a child. All spiffy right? Wrong! Turns out this child is, to be politicly correct, Hearing impared... Then I need to go on from there about emotional struggles and all

Ooooooooh! That's a great concept for a fanfic! Something I would definitely take a time out to read! I've come across fics about disablities before, but never with a pairing's child. Wow, if you don't write that, I hope somebody does...
